Advice on Babysitting Jobs for Teenagers
Finding a job as a teenager is one of the most challenging tasks a teenager faces. Unfortunately, they’re too young to get hired at most retail stores and they’re too old to rely on their parents for expensive gifts and spending money. What’s a teenager to do for a source of income?
Fortunately, babysitting jobs are an excellent source of income for teenager’s that are saving for cars, college and vacations. Instead of jeopardizing school grades, extracurricular activities, and social-lives, teenagers can perform babysitting jobs that fit their busy schedule.
Babysitting jobs can be found in local newspapers, bulletin boards, job banks and on the internet. If a teenager finds babysitting jobs offered by a stranger, make sure an adult makes arrangements to meet the man, woman, or couple that requires assistance with their young child. An adult will be able to determine whether it’s a better idea to do babysitting
jobs at home or in another person’s home.
It’s also a good idea to get all sorts of contact information from the parents of the child you will supervise when you’re doing babysitting jobs. It’s better to be safe than sorry and if an emergency arises - emergency telephone numbers should be ready and accessible. Make sure that parents provide this information before they go anywhere without their kid.
Most babysitting
employment is paid on an hourly basis. Teenagers should always ask when the parents of the child plan on leaving the baby and when they plan on returning to the baby. This will allow the teen to make arrangements before and after their work hours. It will also give them time to contact their parents if they need a ride to and from a babysitting location.
There’s a lot of money to be made with babysitting jobs. Usually, a teenager is likely to earn more money if the babysitting is done in their own home. This is not to say that they’ll earn low wages in another environment, but it may be slightly less.
Prior to agreeing to babysitting in your own home, you should ask your parents or guardian for their permission. Taking care of a baby is a serious responsibility. At times a teenager will be responsible for feeding, entertaining and changing a baby. If this seems like too much of a responsibility, perhaps a supervised babysitting position would be a better idea.
